The City of Rapid City is looking to keep its citizens informed by creating a new position.
The city began taking applications more than three weeks ago.
The goal of the job, which starts around $45,000 a year, will be to streamline the release of information, including press releases and an increased presence on social media.
Community Resources Director Jeff Barbier said the city has been considering the move for a while.
"We felt that we've had this need for several years, but really I guess what was the catalyst making it come forward at this time was when we had the Atlas storm in October. At that point we realized we could have done a better job in getting information out to citizens at that time," said Barbier.
Barbier said they are looking for applicants with a background in media and public relations. The window for submitting an application ends April 9th.
The city hopes to have a final candidate selected within 30 to 60 days.
