Road construction is an all too familiar site in KOTA territory.
Harsh weather may have delayed crews a week or so, but a large and expensive interstate construction project is underway in the northern Black Hills.
And with the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally approaching, crews are racing to finish the first phase of a road re-pavement project along Interstate 90 at Spearfish.
There are two phases to the project. The first is before the rally, where construction will take place between exits 10 and 14. And then after the rally, construction will continue between exits 14 through 17.
The 8-mile project will have a price tag of $15 million. But what will the cost be for local businesses and drivers?
Project engineer Joel Flesner says it should be minimal.
"Speeds will be reduced to 55 on the interstate. But they'll still be able to access all exits. There should be no problem with that," Flesner said.
The entire project should be completed by mid-December.
