AG can't intervene on Senate candidate's challenge

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) _ South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says he has no oversight powers over the validity of signatures submitted by Republican Senate candidate Dr. Annette Bosworth.
Jackley on Monday said he could only intervene in an existing challenge to the signatures if the issue is taken to court.
Secretary of State Jason Gant has certified Bosworth's petition to appear on the ballot for the GOP U.S. Senate primary.
Political activist Cory Heidelberger recently filed an affidavit with Gant's office questioning some of Bosworth's signatures.
Gant on Saturday ruled the challenge unsuccessful, but he forwarded an affidavit to Jackley asking to determine whether one of the claims raised is true.
Heidelberger is questioning some signatures presumably gathered by Bosworth and her husband. Heidelberger says the couple was in the Philippines when the signatures were collected.
