This winter's harsh weather has taken its toll. And people just want to get outside when the weather finally warms up, but it is too soon to get out on the Hanson-Larsen Memorial Park's trails.
Inclement weather has kept the trails from drying out which means the park is closed.
Dave Dessel, park manager, says this year's costs and maintenance for the trails has gone up. "This year we are going to see a market increase in the maintenance because of the severity of the winter," said Dessel.
Dessel says continued used on the trail when it still wet causes an extensive amount of damage. "We see a lot of impacts of the trail and widening of the trail threads which also reduces the sustainability of the trails which really destroys the fun factor," said Dessel.
Dessel says he projects the park will be open by April 15th but if use of the trails continue during this time, they are unsure when they will be open the park up again.
