Ellsworth Air Force Base has seen its ups and downs over the years, in terms of funding dilemmas.
Friday, 28th Bombing Commander, Col. Kevin B. Kennedy, took the time to address the media about the state of the base.
Col. Kennedy said the primary challenge for 2013 was funding, something he believes they have dealt with to the best of their ability. Some sacrifices they had to make include programs such as advanced readiness, proactive maintenance and sustainment around the base, but he said core combat readiness is something that did not take a hit.
With the 2014 and 2015 fiscal year budgets in place, Kennedy said they are set for the next two years in terms of funding. 2016 and beyond is too far to know what changes or cutbacks could happen.
Another area of focus discussed was quality of life on the base. There are a few projects in the works in that area, one including 214 new homes which are slated to be finished in April 2015.
