Nutritionists say you need to drink three glasses of milk each day, which is equivalent to about a gallon of milk each week.
Unfortunately for Feeding South Dakota, they can only give about one gallon per person each year.
That's why they've now turned to the 1st Annual Great American Milk Drive.
The partnership between Feeding America and several dairy distributors throughout the nation aims to distribute more milk to families in need. To donate you don't actually bring in milk, but you can donate online on or by simply texting a donation.
Lauren Forsch, development associate with Feeding South Dakota, says the distribution of milk is very important and this drive should help. "We should really be supplying a gallon of milk to everyone who comes in our local food pantry, but nationally on average we're only supplying one gallon per year," said Forsch.
The drive will continue through the middle of May.
Feeding South Dakota hopes to bring in more than a thousand gallons.
