SD Board of Regents freeze in-state tuition

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) _ The South Dakota Board of Regents has passed a tuition freeze for in-state students at the six state schools.
Regents President Dean Krogman says it was made possible with extra financial support in the state budget.
He applauds the governor and legislature for covering inflation, health insurance and staff salary costs usually paid with student tuition. The state budget provides nearly $4 million for these expenses.
Students appreciate the break in tuition hikes too. Caleb Finck with the South Dakota State University Students' Association says it's tough to see rates go up every year. He says a pause in those increases will add up for students.
The Board agreed on the freeze Wednesday. It establishes tuition changes at its annual April meeting.
