Rapid City witness tampering trial canceled, defendant to enter guilty plea

Posted:

A man convicted for beating his girlfriend with a candlestick will plead guilty to more charges.

The one-day trial scheduled Wednesday for 30-year-old Luke Elk Nation was canceled and a plea date was set.

Elk Nation will enter a guilty plea to two counts of witness tampering on April 15th. In exchange for the plea, the state will drop other charges including the violation of a no contact bond.

Elk Nation was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for the brutal assault of his girlfriend on New Years Day in 2013.

He was charged with witness tampering because he slipped notes to the victim in letters that he would pass to his mother while he was in jail.
