Snowy, slippery, and windy conditions in KOTA Territory caused several accidents and then forced part of the Interstate to close.
After traffic was at a standstill and there were several bad accidents, Interstate 90 was closed from Exit 67 to Wall.
The white–out conditions caused bad car accidents. In one incident, South Dakota Highway Patrol officers say a truck was going too fast for the conditions, and rear– ended a car.
Sergeant Kevin Kinney says it's important to be extra safe due to the low visibility, and while the roads may look good in downtown rapid city, it's a different story going east on the Interstate.
"Well, if you are in town the roads look very good. But as soon as you get out towards Exit 67, towards the Air Force base, the roads become deteriorated very quickly," said Sergeant Kinney.
Another reason that prompted part of the highway to close was a semi truck accident near miler marker 74, where 40 cars were stuck behind the accident.
