In honor of National Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day, Rapid City's American Legion Post 22, honored local veterans.
Shirley Edwards, event chairperson, says the event soothes some of the hurt that Vietnam veterans have, and it brings them all together. She says there is a focus on Vietnam vets but all veterans were encouraged to attend.
Larry Toman, Vietnam veteran, says after landing back in the United States in his uniform, he and his friends were kicked out of cab. "We were refused service at a bar, refused service at a grocery store believe it or not," said Toman. "The only place that were serve us was a bowling alley."
This is the second time a welcome home party was held at Legion Post 22 and Chairperson Edwards says she wants to make it a yearly event.
