Tip from Rapid Valley sex offender meeting leads to arrest

The Pennington County Sheriff's Office has arrested Jacob Wilson, 29, as a result of a tip received from their community meeting February 24th at Rapid Valley Elementary. The meeting was held in response to public concern over the release of Michael Pigney, a known sex offender.

The tip set off an investigation into the living arrangements of Jacob Wilson, a registered sex offender.  It was determined that Wilson was residing at an address that did not match his registered address.  A sex offender is required by law to properly notify the authorities within three business days of any change of address or location.  Click here for the South Dakota Sex Offender Registry.

A warrant was issued for his arrest for violating SDCL 22-24B-12/ Written Notice of New Address.

The Sheriff's Office applauds the actions of this citizen in being vigilant, and for passing on the information necessary to help keep the community safe.

This investigation was a combined effort of the Pennington County Sheriff's Office and the Rapid City Police Department.
