Winter weather delays construction on "Rippin'' Rapids" resort

By Kirk Stevens

The inclement winter weather has delayed construction of a new Black Hills tourist attraction.

"Rippin'' Rapids Resort & Adventure Sports" was originally slated to open sometime this spring, but that date has been pushed to late summer or early fall because of the bad weather delaying construction.

When complete, the new 93,000 square foot park on East Mall Drive will be South Dakota's largest waterpark.

Among the features planned will be a 6 story building, a zip line, tube rides and a wave machine for surfing.

In addition to the waterpark and hotel, there will also be several spaces for retail vendors.

Regional Director of Operations for Capital Management Monte Hartl says he is confident that "Rippin'' Rapids" will be a great year round attraction for the Black Hills.

Hartl also expects to announce some additional features that are in the works for the resort in the upcoming months.
