Rapid City Starbucks not planning to serve alcohol

By Barrett Phillips

According to USA Today, by the end of 2014, the Starbucks plans to have 40 stores serving alcohol to create a new way for customers to get together in the evening.

Chris Braddy, shift supervisor at the Rushmore Mall Starbucks, says there are no plans to serve alcohol at any of the Rapid City locations. He says the program is aimed primarily at high populated areas.

"I would say the target area is bigger cities. I know their really going for being able to serve drinks at night, because less people want coffee at night time. So the main reason behind it is that they feel like they can target that crowd," said Braddy.

Braddy added that serving alcohol would mean a shift in hiring locally. Staff members would have to be 21 years old or more to serve alcohol.
