Rapid City Firefighters are taking on another fierce enemy...breast cancer.
As part of the fire department's "Hosing Breast Cancer" campaign, a check for more than $5745 was presented to the American Cancer Society Thursday.
Far exceeding its initial expectations, the money was raised through the sale of more than 400 T-shirts emblazoned with the campaign logo.
With a personal connection to the disease, International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1040 Vice President Andrew Rasmussen headed up the project, "My wife has been battling breast cancer for the last 9 years, so it's a good opportunity for me and these guys to help us and make a big deal about it."
In addition to sale of the shirts, firefighters also wore pink shirts for the month of October as part of their uniform to show support for breast cancer awareness.
