A project linking downtown Rapid City to the civic center is beginning to take shape.
Completion of the privately funded $1.2 million dollar Memorial Park Promenade is quickly approaching.
Work began about a year ago on Memorial Park Pond including the building of concrete retaining walls, adding numerous fishing docks and a forty foot wide walkway connecting the park to Main Street Square.
Destination Rapid City President Dan Seftner says the cold weather has made things a bit difficult, but he is optimistic the project will be finished this summer, "As you can see things are really moving along. We finally got a little break in our weather, so construction has been moving forward. We plan on a grand opening of the promenade on July 11th, so it's moving along really well".
Also planned for the promenade are the addition of a decorative archway at the entrance to the park and a floating island fountain in the pond featuring colored lighting.
