Rapid City continues to sprawl east

A $100 million development project east of Rapid City is moving along.

Once the southside of East Highway 44 is finished, construction on Orchard Meadows, which includes single family homes, apartments, a gas station and more, will begin.

According to the developer, Hani Shafai, Rapid City Regional Hospital is planning to open an Urgent Care facility.

Shafai said his company is also in negotiations with two franchises, at least one of which is new to the area.

"This part of the city is growing really great, and it is going to satisfy or fill in a lot of gaps in the market," said Shafai.

Shafai expects construction on the new homes to begin as early as next month.  All of the lots have already been sold to builders in the area.
