Moviegoers in Sturgis have a brand new option

A new kind of movie theater is coming soon to a neighborhood near you.

Specifically, one that serves dinner.

The new movie house is set to open on Friday, March 21st at the Easyriders Saloon in Sturgis.

Moviegoers will be able to enjoy popcorn, a burger, a burrito or a host of other menu items while catching the latest flick of their giant 10' x 16' screen.

The theater, which seats about 70, will also feature a full bar, comfy recliner-style chairs, and a kid's arcade.

City officials initially went to the owners of Easyriders to ask about the possibility of them opening a theater. The idea has been a goal of the city council for the past several years.

Sturgis' Mayor Mark Carstensen says residents no longer have to leave town for entertainment.

"It's something the citizens of Sturgis have wanted, not only for the entertainment value, but the economic impact that it brings to our community," Carstensen said.

Terri Shoup, assistant to the general manager at Easyriders says it's going to be a dining experience as well as entertainment.

"It will be very family friendly oriented, very comfortable. We have the arcade for the kids as well. We'll show second-run movies. We will get them anywhere from two to six weeks before they hit DVD"

Ticket prices are $5 for a movie only. If you have dinner as well, the $5 will be taken off your bill.

The first films to light up the screen will be "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," and "Devil's Due."
