Former teen mentor staff member sentenced for rape

Delbert Ghost Bear, 25, charged with 4th degree rape, was sentenced Friday. Judge Trimble sentenced him to 7 1/2 in prison, but he suspended all but 180 days of it.

Prosecutors say Ghost Bear was an advisor with a Native American mentor program called Ateyapi, when he groomed a 15-year-old girl and took her virginity. The incident happened in April.

Friday, Ghost Bear acknowledged the harm he caused to the teen, apologized for his actions and asked for leniency.

While he will spend the next six months behind bars, Judge Trimble did tell him that if he follows the terms of his probation for the next two years that he can ask for a suspended imposition of sentence.
