SD Guard airmen urged to protect IDs after breach

Posted:

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) _ More than 1,000 South Dakota Air National Guard members are being urged to protect their identities after their personal information was included in an email sent to a personal account.

A letter sent by 114th Fighter Wing commander Col. Russ Walz to airmen says names, Social Security numbers and other information was included in a March 2 email sent by a unit member to a real estate company.

Walz says in his letter that there's a ``low probability the compromised information will be used for an unlawful purpose.'' But he says soldiers might want to place a fraud alert on their credit files.

South Dakota Guard spokesman Maj. Anthony Deiss says no more details will be provided while the investigation continues.
