Fire crews ignite 130 acres as part prescribed burn

Posted:

A prescribed burn began Monday morning, filling the sky with smoke.

The 130-acre blaze is part of continued efforts by the U.S. Forest Service to reduce fuels.

It is taking place southeast of Pactola Reservoir, or approximately 12 miles southwest of Rapid City, and 3 miles north of Sheridan Lake.

Fire will be confined primarily to south-facing slopes which are ordered by snow and frozen fuels.

Moisture Monday night could mean less smoke Tuesday.
