Bill aims to fund economic development among Native Americans

Posted:

More Native - run businesses and initiatives.

That's the goal of one bill up for a senate floor vote on Monday. House Bill 1213 would give the Board of Economic Development the ability to award grants to fund more Native-run projects, as long as they help address the needs, initiatives, and barriers affecting Native Americans in South Dakota.

To see if projects meet certain qualifications, a South Dakota Tribal Economic Development Task Force would also be established. It would evaluate a project's need and decide which projects would have the best chance for success.

If the bill passes Monday, it will go to the Governor's desk.
