Spearfish police adopt emergency alert system

Following an evaluation and review of different alerting systems, the City of Spearfish has implemented the CodeRED system, a high-speed emergency notification service provided by Ormond Beach, FL-based Emergency Communications Network.

The CodeRED system will serve as an outreach tool to both citizens and City personnel by using the system capabilities to send telephone calls, text messages, emails and social media in an effort to effectively inform residents and to protect life and property.

CodeRED's system will provide city officials with a reliable, easy-to-use interface to quickly disseminate critical information and notifications to our citizens.  The City of Spearfish anticipates using the system to notify residents in specific geographic locations of important information ranging from informational items to more important incidents such as missing children, criminal activity, and major weather events.

The City of Spearfish has been provided an initial database of residential and business telephone numbers drawn from a variety of sources, however all residents living within Spearfish City limits are encouraged to visit www.cityofspearfish.com and click on the CodeRED logo to enroll additional contact information including cell phone numbers, text and email addresses.
