Jurors return guilty verdict in Rapid City kidnapping case

After six and a half hours of deliberation, jurors on the Virgil Bald Eagle trial returned with a guilty verdict on all six counts.

Bald Eagle, 37, faces 35 years behind bars for one count of kidnapping, two counts of simple assault on a law enforcement officer, two counts of simple assault and violation of protection order.

Prosecutors were able to prove that Bald Eagle tried to keep two women inside of an apartment in Rapid City last March.  Police officers also testified that Bald Eagle held his terrified daughter against the door and told police not to kick the door down or they would hurt his daughter and he'd have to kill them.

Before police stormed the apartment and tased Bald Eagle, he hurled an object at police causing minor injuries to the officers.

One of the women who prosecutors say was held against her will, testified for the defense. She told jurors she lied to police last March.  She now claims Bald Eagle never hurt her.

Bald Eagle's sentencing hearing has not been scheduled.
