They served their country heroically but today they expressed themselves artistically.
The annual Veterans Creative Arts Show took place Wednesday afternoon.
Veterans from Fort Meade and Hot Springs submitted a variety of entries from different mediums including paintings, drawings, and even music and wood work.
National Creative Arts Show Coordinator Kyle Doerges says tapping into a veteran's creative side is often a big part of rehabilitation, "It allows some expression, maybe not verbal expression but more of a creativity and a way to express what you're feeling on the inside, kind of an outlet to let people know what you're feeling, I guess."
The winners from today's show will move forward to the national competition in October in Milwaukee.
