Noem calls for hearing on Propane shortage

With the price of propane on the rise, U.S. Representative Kristi Noem from South Dakota wants a hearing to explore potential solutions to the problem.

Noem partnered with 13 other representatives from Midwestern states to send a letter to energy and commerce committee leadership to request a hearing to examine the current propane shortage crisis.

The letter states any further reduction in supply threatens to leave constituents without the fuel necessary to heat homes and keep livestock and poultry barns warm.

Statistics show propane prices across the Midwest averaged $2.50 per gallon to start this year, compared to $1.74 last year.

However, last week prices rose to $4.20 per gallon; reaching upwards of 5 dollars in some areas.

Factors contributing to the price increase include unseasonably cold and wet weather, and supply disruptions.
