Business owners look to the future after Summer Nights decision

After the Rapid City Council voted to hold the Summer Nights event on Main and Seventh Streets, downtown business owners on both sides of the issue are looking to move forward.

Factory, Inc. Salon's Owner, Dennis Halterman said he does not support the action of closing any streets downtown during the summer. He said business owners will be back in front of the city council to plea their case again.

"The shutting down of roads is what has brought people back every single year," he said. "Shutting down Main Street is not going to stop the people on Main Street from coming back here again next year."

Murphy's Pub and Grill Owner, Anthony Demaro said he supports the decision and that all the business downtown can be successful if they have good marketing and business owners work together.

"It's all about innovation and I think that if we put 10 brains together to brain storm on somebody's situation maybe we can find an idea that they haven't tried yet," said Demaro.

Halterman said he appreciates what Demaro is offering to do with helping downtown businesses with marketing, but he still would rather not see any closed streets during the summer.
