Beloved children's book author Dr. Seuss would turn 110 years old this week and a KOTA Territory school is celebrating the occasion.
Students at Big Horn Elementary ended their school day Monday by getting to see their principal dress up like the Cat in the Hat and read the classic book to the crowd. Several other teachers spent the entire day dressed as Dr. Seuss characters.
The event coincides with Read Across America, a National Education Association program designed to promote reading through fun activities.
"We want to give every child every opportunity and that starts with the very basic skill of reading and reading well and understanding what they read," said Principal Greg Figenser.
Students will read a different Dr. Seuss book for each day this week, including "Fox in Sox", "Bartholomew and the Oobleck," and "Oh, the Places You'll Go."
