Spearfish business fire might be arson


Spearfish police are investigating an early morning fire as possibly arson.

The fire was started around 6 a.m. in the Hoggatt CPA office building at 717 Fifth Street.  The Spearfish Volunteer Fire Department contained the fire to the inside of the building.  Property was damaged but it is unknown as to the monetary value right now.

According to a police release, the preliminary investigation shows that the fire was deliberately set.  The Spearfish Police Department, along with the state Fire Marshall's Office, are attempting to determine how the fire was set and who is responsible.
