When preparing your tax return, experts say it's import to be aware of scams. One of the most common scams is identity theft.
Some people steal someone's identity through fake emails and phishing scams. They then use that information to file a fraudulent return.
Gregg Hook, of Liberty Tax Service in Rapid City, said there are ways people can avoid being scammed.
"Definitely securing your information, making sure that your social security numbers, names, any type of that information is secure. Also making sure to review credit reports things like that," said Hook.
Hook said to avoid problems, it's best to choose a professional tax preparer.
