Sheridan group promotes blacksmiths

People are heading to Sheridan from throughout the region to celebrate a different kind of art.

Duane Bomar is president of the Wyoming Artist Blacksmiths, which is hosting a three day forge-in this weekend. The event will include demonstrations of blacksmithing and metal work. Bomar says people from as far away as western Montana and Washington state are coming.

Bomar gave a lesson to some people who showed up early Thursday on creating knives.

Bomar says blacksmiths can create unique works of art that also serve a purpose in the home.

"You can build all kinds of neat items for the home, candelabras, stair railings. And it's very functional, but it's extremely beautiful work," said Bomar.

The forge in starts Friday at 9:00 a.m. in Bomar's shop with a demonstration from Mark Constable, a blacksmith who came all the way over from England for the event.
