Rapid City's newest police K-9 gets a name

After reaching out to the community for suggestions, the newest member of the Rapid City Police Department finally has a name.

The name "Stryker" was chosen as the name for the department's new canine.

The two year old 75 pound Belgian Malinois replaces Magnum, who was recently retired.

Stryker and his handler, Senior Officer Sean Doyle will head to Gillette next month for eight weeks of training to get Stryker ready to be put into service.

More than 1400 names were submitted for consideration.

The winning name, Stryker came from Ms. Snyder's fifth grade class at General Beadle Elementary.
