Air Force seeks comment on expanded training site

by Cindy Davis & The Associated Press

The plan for a massive expansion of a B-1 Bomber training complex is moving forward.
The Air Force's Powder River Training Complex would stretch between Billings, Montana, Bismarck, North Dakota, northwest South Dakota and northeast Wyoming.
The current training grounds are used for electronic bombing.

The expansion was first proposed in 2008.  Now as a final step, the Federal Aviation Administration is seeking public comment by April before making its decision.
Ranchers and private pilots in Montana have been outspoken in opposing the training complex.
South Dakota's congressional delegation has been in strong support because approval would give Ellsworth Air Force Base a leg up in base closure rounds.

In 2005, it was one of the reasons Ellsworth was spared.
