Mount Rushmore is top pick for President's Day travelers

Posted:

President's Day is big business at Mount Rushmore National Memorial.

In fact, the monument is listed on the best President's Day travel destinations by besttraveldeals.net.

While attendance numbers are down this year compared to the same time last year, more people have visited the memorial this weekend than any other weekend so far in 2013.

Presidential parking officials attribute the boost to the nice weather. Visitors say it's a great way to spend the day off.

"The monument's been here for a long time and I came here as a kid. I grew up in Pierre and I hardly gets up here. So, we thought it would be a nice tribute today," said Sarah McIntosh from Pierre.

"Well, my family and I just moved to the states in December, and my dad  came for a visit and we just thought it's a long weekend and the kids have a time off school, its President's Day why don't we head over to Mount Rushmore," said Simone Mckenzie from Denver, CO.

Mount Rushmore is getting a lot of play recently. A couple of weeks ago it was featured on the Price is Right as part of a trip to the Black Hills. The four famous faces were even featured in a TV commercial for Denny's during the Super Bowl.
