The Black Hills Runners Club hosted the Couple's Run Sunday. The club has been hosting the event since 1980, after Valentines Day, to give couples the chance to run together.
It's the first run of the year for the club which marks the beginning of a year-long active schedule. The club's main goal is to promote running and a healthy lifestyle in the Black Hills.
"We're working real hard to get the kids active, so we do three kids races along with our races. We had about 40 kids run the 1K this year, and they all received an apple at the finish line. Hopefully that will encourage them to come back and be active again," said Gary Miller, co-race director.
For the first time, the runners club will be giving away two $1,000 scholarships this year to collegiate running athletes.
