Largest lion of season harvested in Meade County

The largest lion of the hunting season was killed in Meade County this week.
The five-year-old male weighed 149 pounds. It's one of four big cats to go up on the tally board this week.
Five others were killed Wednesday; a four-year-old, 84-pound female lion was harvested in Custer County; and two kittens, weighing under 35 pounds were killed in Lawrence County.

Both were female. Wildlife Biologist John Kanta says the young cats had faded spots and were determined to be legal kills.

And two additional females, weighing 77 and 72 pounds were also killed in Lawrence County.

That brings the total number of females to 25. Thirty-eight lions have been killed since the season started on Dec. 26.
The season ends on Mar. 31 or when a total of 75 mountain lions; or when a limit of 50 females are taken.
