Rapid City has healthy year of sales taxes

by Jack Siebold, MyTown Editor

Last year may have been dismal for weather but when it comes to sales tax revenue; it was a good year for Rapid City.  The city pulled in nearly three quarter of a million dollars more than the previous year, $718,421 to be exact.

The year-end report shows that 2013 was the best in the last five years, topping out at $22,832,963.  That is an 8.67 percent hike over 2012 when sales tax receipts were $22,114,542.  Looking at the five year average, the city's tax growth rate is 3.25 percent.

The only year in the last five where Rapid City didn't have growth was 2009.  That year, the city dropped 3.22 percent from the year before when the country was in the middle of the Great Recession (December 2007 to June 2009).
