UPDATE: Slippery roads likely cause of fatal accident near Piedmont

The name of the woman who was in a fatal accident Saturday following a three-vehicle crash has been released.

Janelle Forrest, of Kansas, is dead After her Dodge Ram crossed the median into on–coming traffic around 1:30 p.m. near Piedmont.

Her vehicle was T-boned by a truck traveling Westbound on the interstate.

The driver of the truck who collided with the Dodge, Darrol Birk of Rapid City, was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

A third driver, Joseph Hendricks of Arizona, ran into the back of Birk's Ford but he was not hurt.

Highway Patrol say everyone was wearing their seatbelts and alcohol use, by the victim only, is being investigated.  They also say the slippery roads were a major factor and likely a leading cause.

The victim, from Kansas, has not been identified pending notification of the family.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is asking anyone who witnessed the accident to call them as soon as possible, as any information will help with the investigation.
