Walmart murder case moves closer to trial

A Rapid City man accused in the 2012 murder of his pregnant ex-girlfriend is one step closer to trial. A hearing is set to decide if a jury will hear Michael Young's prior bad acts.

Seventh Circuit presiding Judge Jeff Davis will hear testimony in the Michael Young case, on March 24th.

Young, 32, faces numerous charges, including first degree murder, fetal homicide, felony violation of protection order and stalking.

Police say he stabbed his ex-girlfriend, 30 year old Morgan Myers, several times as she was leaving the Walmart parking lot in April of 2012, killing her and her unborn child.

Prosecutors say the hearing will deal with potential testimony. They will bring up previous acts that Young has done that they want to use in the trial, and they will use witnesses.
The trial is expected to start in May or June. If convicted, Young faces a mandatory life sentence.
