Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo gets underway

It draws more than 300,000 people every year. The Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo is the single biggest event that Rapid City hosts and this year is no exception.

The halls of the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center are filled with more than 400 vendor spaces and almost 240 merchants. One addition this year is a leather show that will be going through the weekend.

This year some vendors are using this opportunity to help ranchers affected by the October blizzard.

"A & A Engraving is donating one of our riffles to be auctioned off to the Rancher Relief Fund so we're pretty excited about that," said Mark Smith, Project Manager at A & A Engravings.

"You know there's a lot of reasons to come out to the stock show and one of them certainly this year is camaraderie to find those fellow ranchers who understand the plight and the tough times it is to occasionally be a rancher. And sometimes you just need to have some companionship that understands where you come from," said Ron Jeffries, General Manager of the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo.

Xtreme Bulls once again kick off the first weekend.  The rodeo events begin at 7:30 in the Barnett Arena.
