The Rapid City Police Department is making some upgrades to its patrol cars.
The police department will replace the cameras for patrol vehicles. The cost of the new video systems is $37, 415. The 2014 Highway Safety Grant the was awarded to the department will cover $6,125.00 of the purchase.
Rapid City Police Chief Steve Allender says the upgrade is key to ensuring the streets are safe. "It's important because things happen on the streets of our city that are not always agreed upon by the police and the suspects so it's good for us to go back and review our work and its good for us to bring our cameras to the court," said Allender.
One camera system for one car costs approximately $7,000.
