Autopsy: Rapid City man died from drowning

Preliminary autopsy results reveal the cause of death of a Rapid City man is consistent with drowning.

Milton Stromer, 65, died Tuesday when his vehicle became submerged in a stock pond on his property near Rapid City Regional Airport. He was transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital where he later died.
 
Toxicology results are still pending.

The Pennington County Sheriff's Office has released the name of the man found in a submerged vehicle near Rapid City Regional Airport.

At 2:00 p.m. Tuesday,  dispatch received a call for a submerged vehicle in a stock dam of Aviation Road.

The Pennington County Water Rescue team, comprised of members from the Pennington County Sheriff's Office, Rapid City Police Department and Rapid City Fire Departments responded to the scene.  The Rapid Valley Fire Department also aided in the recovery.

A 65 year-old male, identified as Milton Stromer of Rapid City, was transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy is pending to determine the cause of death.

A 65-year-old man died when his vehicle crashed through the ice on a stock dam off of Aviation Road, near the Rapid City Regional Airport.

The Pennington County Sheriff's Department says the man was taken to Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. Tuesday. According to a release from the Rapid City Fire Department, when crews arrived on scene, only the roof of the vehicle was showing above the ice.  Crews trained in ice rescue were able to reach the vehicle and pull the victim out through a window.

The accident is still under investigation.

Responding emergency crews came from the Rapid City Fire Department., along with Rapid Valley Volunteer Fire Department, the Pennington County Sheriff's office, the Rapid City-Pennington County Water Rescue Team and Highway Patrol.
