Car washing helps cars fight winters in KOTA Territory

Washing your car feels like a summer activity, but it's important to go through that car wash in the winter as well. A cold and snowy winter on combined with salt on the road could cause your vehicle problems.

Nick Patton, owner of Jackson Car Wash, says the combination of salt and water on the roads is called "mag water." This water is magnesium chloride and it can cause the paint to fall off your car as well as rust the metal.

Patton advises washing your car once a week or twice a month to make sure you car is not building up salt for a long period of time. "You can run it through the automatic, which will take out all the salt and grime, but sometimes the road-grime eventually sticks on there pretty bad," said Patton. "What you would like to do is go into the self–serve and use the bubble brush, scrub it off really well, and then you can keep running through the automatic."

Patton also says if your car has not been repaired from a fender bender, it will be more vulnerable to rusting.
