Regional Health's priority is the safety and health of its most vulnerable hospital patients and senior care residents. Regional Health is implementing Visitor Guidelines throughout its hospitals and senior care facilities to help protect patients and residents.

The visitation guidelines are in effect at the Regional Hospitals in: Custer, Lead-Deadwood, Rapid City (including the Regional Rehabilitation Institute), Spearfish and Sturgis. They are also in effect at: Custer Regional Senior Care and Wedgwood Regional Senior Care in Custer, Fairmont Grand Regional Senior Care in Rapid City, Golden Ridge Regional Senior Care in Lead, and Sturgis Regional Senior Care.

The guidelines include:

  • If a visitor has symptoms including coughing, sneezing, runny nose or a fever do not visit hospitalized patients or senior care residents.
  • It is recommended no children under age 12 visit patients or residents during this time.

Additional precautions are being taken in the departments with the patients most vulnerable to complications if exposed to viruses or other illnesses. Only immediate family or designated support person will be allowed in the following departments:

  • Intensive Care Units (ICU)
  • Maternal Child, Labor and Delivery
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • Pediatrics
  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Once the influenza season has passed, Regional Health will lift these visitor guidelines.

"We feel these visitor guidelines are the most effective way to protect our patients and residents, as well as the general public," said David Klocke, M.D., Regional Health Chief Medical Officer. "We appreciate the public's help in preventing patient exposure to influenza and other viruses during this time."
