Mountain lion hunting season keeps slow pace

The count in the South Dakota mountain lion hunting season remains at 15, eight are female. That means no big cats have been harvested since last week.

Last year at this time, a total of 17 lions had been killed.

The season began on Dec. 26 and runs until Mar. 31 or until a limit of 75 total mountain lions are taken; or when a limit of 50 female mountain lions are taken.

South Dakota has had a residents-only mountain lion season since 2005.
