Black Hills residents weigh in on Medicaid expansion debate

No matter where you go in the state, people have an opinion on whether to expand Medicaid. For customers at Jerry's Cakes and Donuts in Rapid City it's no exception.

George Wallace says he is concerned about the reliability of the Federal Government's funding of the Medicaid program.

"The federal government in my opinion will not be able to pay 90 percent of Medicaid forever there comes a point in time here the federal government is going to put a red light," Wallace asked what happens then, "It's got to be from increased taxes."

Charles Shaul says he doesn't think that is sufficient cause not to help people in need. "I don't believe that some people have said maybe federal funding will be taken away not funded to the degree it should be and I just don't believe that's a good reason to not help out our fellow South Dakotans," said Shaul.

"The federal government may change in total and the thinking might be let's repeal Obama Care because it's just too much of a burden, a financial burden," said Wallace.

But Shaul says there isn't a better way to use state and federal funding than health care. "It is important to take care of our families, I think we should help as much as we can in the state," said Shaul.
