Rapid City Catholic church hosts prayer service on Roe v. Wade anniversary

Catholics around the world are calling this, the 41st anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision, a day of mourning.

A march was held Wednesday morning on the National Mall with a rally. Then protesters marched along Constitution Avenue to Capitol Hill and the Supreme Court, where abortion-rights supporters also gathered.

In Rapid City, the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is hosting a prayer service for 24 hours. The day of prayer began at 7:00 a.m. Wednesday and will continue until 7:00 a.m. Thursday.

Over the past several decades, anti–abortion groups have taken steps to put small limits on the procedure in conservative states. As both sides of the debate mark Wednesday's anniversary, anti–abortion leaders and lawmakers are under pressure to take bigger steps.

Voters in South Dakota have rejected bans on abortion twice in recent years.
