Rapid City School District employee arrested for internet crimes against children

Posted:

The Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force received information from an out of state law enforcement agency in regards to an investigation concerning the sexual solicitation of a minor, occurring here in Rapid City.  Upon further investigation it was determined the suspect was an employee of the Rapid City School District, and was currently employed at Pinedale Elementary School.

Detectives from the ICAC and Rapid City Police Department responded to Pinedale Elementary, and arrested Casey Godfrey, 28 of Rapid City.  Godfrey was arrested without incident.

The Rapid City School District has been working closely with law enforcement to address this problem.  At this time it appears Godfrey's criminal behavior was linked to internet activity only.  However the case will continue to be investigated.

The ICAC is a joint Task Force with members from the Rapid City Police Department, Pennington County Sheriff's Office, and Division of Criminal Investigation.

The charge of Solicitation of a Minor is a Class 4 Felony (SDCL 22-24A-5).
