A Box Elder man, accused of injuring an officer as he tried to flee police custody, has been indicted on several charges including the aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer.
John Root Junior, 24, was arrested January 3.
Pennington County Sheriff's deputies developed information about Root's vehicle and spotted it in South Rapid City.
Deputies were serving a warrant to Root on New Years day when he took off in his vehicle.
Box Elder police officer Nick Rosser tried to stop him but was caught in the car door. Then as Root continued his escape, investigators say he drove directly at deputies and was fired upon by deputy Jamin Hartland.
Root is being held in the Pennington County Jail on $75,000 cash or surety.
