Rounds campaigns in Rapid City, speaks to Family Heritage Alliance

By Barrett Phillips

Mike Rounds, a Republican candidate for South Dakota's U.S. Senate seat spoke at the Family Heritage Alliance Luncheon in Rapid City Wednesday.  The former governor told the religious and conservative group that America is not broken, but Washington D.C. is.

That's why he says it's important to gain support from people with similar conservative values.

Although, his republican opponents claim that Rounds isn't conservative enough.

"There are folks that would like to be to the farther right of me, and they're finding it very difficult to be there.  And, I think they'll find that most of the folks in South Dakota that consider themselves to be conservative feel like they believe in the same things that I do," said Rounds.

Rounds said he has garnered 1,700 donors and 2,000 volunteers for his campaign.

The other republican candidates are State Senator Larry Rhoden, State Representative Stace Nelson, Jason Ravnsborg, and Annette Bosworth. The race also includes democrat Rick Weiland and Larry Pressler who is an independent.
