Civic Center has around $1 million worth of hail damage - KOTA Territory News

Civic Center Hail Damage claim nears $1 million

Posted:

The Rushmore Plaza Civic Center may have the largest hail damage claim in KOTA Territory.
The most recent estimate shows that it may be around $1 million.

The majority of the damage is to the ice arena roof.  The price tag to fix it: around $480,000.
The skylights throughout the building are also damaged, and replacing those would cost more than a half million dollars.

The changing weather from hot to cold, exposed more damage, so in November, the building was re-inspected and their original claim was adjusted.  The Civic Center will have to pay a $50,000 deductible to have it fixed, and that won't happen until this spring.

On top of hail damage, the Civic Center did have some damage from the October blizzard.
Most of the costs, which add up to around $10,000, came from equipment use, overtime costs and vegetation damage.

The Civic Center claim is rolled in with the Rapid City's damages. In all, the City estimates the storm cost $2.6 million.  FEMA is expected to reimburse the City for 85 percent of the cost.
